Miranda, President of Tonacity, has been a singer for as long as she can remember and uses music to express herself.

“There is never a dull moment with Tonacity! From sleepoevers to brunches to performances near and far, every memory with this group of ladies is special. I am so proud of Tonacity's growth since its start, so I am so, so excited to see Tonacity's impact in the years to come.”

At NCC, Miranda is also involved with the honors program, the theatrical productions, One Note Stand, Cardinal Dance Company, and The Company. She is also a Student Ambassador and part of the Box Office staff.

We are so thankful for Miranda’s leadership and guidance!

Lexii Gravis '20

Lexii has been singing for as long as she can remember and is inspired by the rush that comes with performing.

“My favorite part of Tonacity has been meeting all of the wonderful women.”

We think it’s wonderful having Lexii as part of our team!

Skyler Luby '22

Skyler has always been a singer, but joining a choir at age 9 started her love for the art.

“The best part about being a member of Tonacity is the community we have formed, through the common goal of sharing music. It’s incredibly exciting that we get to find our sound as a group! Both as a group and individually, we have grown so much since last term. I have learned so much about myself, my voice, and my capabilities in just a few short months, and I am excited for our future as a group!”

Outside of Tonacity, Skyler is involved in theatre, Cardinal First, and NCC Lead. Skyler says she spends her time “being with my friends, volunteering when I get the chance, missing my dogs, dancing terribly, and trying to be my best self!”

“I sing because music allows me to communicate my emotions in ways that words can’t.”
We are so thankful to have Skyler as part of the Tonacity family!

“I love how it brings people together and the wonder and joy it brings to people.”

Hannah is involved in theatre and loves to read and write songs, stories, and poems.

“My favorite part of Tonacity is the connection I have gained with everyone. I love being able to perform with such a talented supportive group of girls and I don’t know how I would have survived trimester one without everyone.”

We are so thankful to have Hannah as a part of our team!

Madeleine has been singing on stage since she was about six years old.

“I've loved getting to know the other people in this group with me and making friends. I'm looking forward to improving together as a group.”

We are truly blessed to have Madeleine as a part of our group!

Fake news laws | Should we support them?

In recent years, "fake news" has been a big concern for the general public. News articles posted online may or may not be based on fact, and when misinformation spreads, it's like wildfire. Is this good enough reason for legislation and regulation? In the United States, we have the first amendment. With this, the constitution states that we have rights to free expression that the government cannot infringe upon. If we were to try and pass legislation like what is currently being considered in Singapore, it would have little chance of passing. That is because the regulation being called for n Singapore is so restrictive that tech companies like Facebook could get into huge legal trouble if articles deemed by the Singaporean government as "fake news" are posted on their platform. When the government has so much power that they can deem articles as "fake news" and ban them outright, this is a problem for those concerned about freedom of expression

OUR FAN-BASE (RE: Megan Reardon)

In an interview conducted by the site, "rebecca's pocket" by Rebecca Blood, Megan Reardon, a crafts blogger from the turn of the century explains how and why she keeps a weblog. In the interview, she goes into how she got started with blogging, how she comes up with ideas, and so on, but the most fascinating topic, to me, was her discussion of her internet audience. Source: http://www.rebeccablood.net/bloggerson/meganreardon.html Reardon made the decision to turn off the comments on her blog. She says. "... people were more antagonistic than was called for. If the same tone were taken while they were in my home I would toss them out. With all the access restriction that has become available since I took comments down I think I would feel better about having them, but for whatever reason it doesn't interest me enough to do." Although her platform is mostly related to crafts, the internet has a way of sometimes bringing out the worst in anonymous onl
